"SoCal Coastal" is a one-of-a-kind private batch release from Penelope's Architect lineup — a four-grain straight bourbon finished with precision-selected French oak staves, bottled at 110 proof, and shaped into a dessert-rich, warmth-forward pour that carries the easy confidence of a California sunset over the Pacific.
Tasting Notes
Nose: The glass opens with the warmth of a French patisserie on a warm afternoon — buttery caramel, toasted vanilla bean, and a whisper of golden brioche. The French oak announces itself gently, adding a dry, refined woodiness that keeps the sweetness honest. Beneath it all, a soft floral note drifts through like sea air through an open window, giving the nose a lightness that belies how rich the palate is about to get.
Palate: Full, creamy, and immediately luxurious. The four-grain base delivers a silky texture that coats the palate before the flavors begin to unfold first a wave of honeyed caramel and crème brûlée, then a deeper layer of toasted hazelnut, cocoa powder, and brown butter. The French oak staves show their work mid-palate, adding just enough structure and dry tannin to keep the sweetness grounded and the sip moving forward. A gentle warmth builds slowly never sharp, never harsh more like the amber glow at the end of a long California afternoon than any kind of heat.
